GPRC Wolves Men’s Soccer Excited About New RecruitsJuly 26, 2010 The GPRC Men’s Soccer Team is excited to announce five of the incoming recruits for the upcoming 2010 Season. Graham Clark, Jesse Noppibul, Jan Barbier, Dylan Cartier, and Jeff Bruynson are all committed to being Wolves come September. Clark has former experiences playing for coach Spaidal in the Arctic Winter Games’ Soccer Competition. “Graham is a very quick, physical player that has a nose for goal. He is a tremendously competitive individual who simply has a knack for producing goals, a very welcome addition”, says Spaidal. Noppibul is a local athlete who is a product of the Wolves Soccer Club system, who coach Spaidal has watched develop for a few years. “Jesse is an extremely quick player with solid technical ability. He will provide the team with some explosive, much needed speed and grit”. Barbier will come in as one of the most experienced first year Wolves Soccer players ever and will have an expectation level of himself to make a noticeable impact on the team from day one. Spaidal indicates, “Jan is a very gifted technical player who has much experience competing at high level competitions including the Canada Summer Games and Arctic Winter Games. He has really matured as a player and person over the last few years and will be a valuable addition to our squad.” Cartier comes in as a pleasant surprise addition to the team and Coach Spaidal. “I had recruited Dylan in previous years but he was undecided about his plans at that time. He is a very versatile player, who can be effective as either an attacking midfielder or striker. He will offer tremendous speed and physicality to our line up and is a fairly local product.” Cartier hails from the town of Peace River, just 2 hours north of Grande Prairie. Bruynson will be coming in after having spent the past winter season training with the team during the 2010 Indoor Season and attending GPRC for classes during the Winter Semester. “Jeff is a mature, steady player who will offer veteran stability to our backline. He’s well-experienced, having played the majority of his soccer in various leagues around the Edmonton area.” These recruits are welcomed signings to the GPRC Wolves Men’s Soccer Program. “We are very pleased to add these young men to our Program this year and are in the works of securing a few more quality players to the side. It’s a positive indication that the GPRC Wolves Soccer Program is growing in the right direction and can hopefully continue in this manner, with the continued efforts of the local clubs such as the Wolves Soccer Club, Peace River Minor Soccer and FSJ Minor Soccer”. |
Local High School All-Star signs with Wolves
In what could be described as Coach Nicol’s easiest decision in his twenty-eight year coaching career, the Wolves have signed local standout Josh Nicol. A product of the Wolves Club system and a graduate of the very successful Grande Prairie Composite High School program, the 5’9” pure point guard is a natural leader who makes everyone around him better. He possesses a solid fundamental skill set and a very high basketball IQ.
Josh has captained the Wolves Summer Selects Hawaii team, the Zone 8 Alberta Summer Games squad, the Wolves Club teams, his high school team and led Team Alberta to gold at the 2010 Arctic Winter games. The two-sport standout (football, basketball) capped off a stellar high school career with the ‘Basketball Leadership Award’ and a share of the ‘Male Athlete of Year’ for 2010.
The young point guard “loves the pace of the game and the competition”. He lists his best basketball attributes as a player as “my court vision and coachability”. Choosing GPRC was a natural as he states “my dream has always been to play collegiate basketball for my dad”.
“Obviously I already know exactly what I am getting. Josh is a young man of great character and I couldn’t be happier that my son will be in a Wolves jersey next season” Coach Nicol
“Josh was a true leader for Team Alberta at the 2010 Arctic Winter Games. His ability to see the floor and control the tempo of play all under pressure set him apart from the other point guards at the games.” Coach Bishop, AWG “Josh is one of the most humble, selfless and coachable athletes I know. His heart and dedication to the game has turned him into not only an incredible athlete, but a talented leader on and off the court.” Coach Sage, MJHS “Josh was a vital part of our success as a summer club team. He has great leadership on and off the court and his work ethic is second to none. Josh has developed into a potent scorer and floor general.” Coach Turner Wolves Club “It was a pleasure coaching Josh. Our team continually looked to him to set the tone and we will miss his work ethic, leadership, and character. Make no mistake, underneath his friendly, easy going nature and big smile isan intense competitor who will give everything he's got every moment of every practice and every game.” Coach Sandboe, GPCHS |
